HTC Touch Upgraded, Coming to Sprint

The HTC Touch, with it's gesture based UI tweaks on top of a WM6 OS was a cute concept, but flawed. Sprint's picking it up, giving it CDMA/EVDO superpowers, doubling the processing speed from 200MHz to 400MHz to deal with Bill's Bloat, and eventual revision A. speed, and assisted GPS, once they software update it. The finger gesture menus invoke a set of commands for messaging, and one set for Sprint's multimedia functions, like TV and the music store. Sprint says this is likely coming in November.

GTA 4: A look into Liberty City

GTA 4 is the most popular, as well as the most money-making franchise in recent history. This game has ruled the charts for years together in terms of sales, and will continue to do so as the game's popularity only increases with each new title. GTA - the series, enables a player to be a hard-core criminal who can display road-rage, kill civilians, deal in drugs, steal any car that he likes, kill anyone that he dislikes, even go to a strip club, or pick up hookers; I guess this explains why this game is so popular. A new title in the series is under-development and will soon be available for pre-order as its release has been pushed to 2008. There are a few official trailers and a little info available on fan websites. Most of it entails rumors, but I have tried to filter out a few good facts about the game. Read on to know more about your favorite upcoming title.

Plot

The first trailer that we saw was a brief one; it showed Liberty City in 720p running real-time on the Rockstar Advanced Game Engine (RAGE).

The Rage engine is the same technology that powers the Rockstar Table Tennis game. The game is based in a redesigned Liberty City, which is loosely based on New York City. The game's protagonist is called Niko Bellic, a guy who comes to Liberty City in search of redemption and has to start a new life.

Niko has killed many people and indulged in several activities that he wants to put behind him. In the first trailer we can hear him say, "Life is complicated; I killed people, smuggled people, sold people. Perhaps here, things will be different."

He wants to get away from it all. He has a cousin in Liberty City called Roman, who calls Niko to Liberty City saying that he has all the comforts in the world and Niko could join him there. Niko arrives to the City only to find out that Roman is lying. He had called Niko there to help him clear off his debts. Roman is the only person Niko knows in the city, so he decides to help. What happens next is for us to find out when the game is out.

Mozilla Fixes 2 Crucial Bugs in Firefox

Mozilla has released version 2.006 of its mainstream browser Firefox, which fixes 2 very important security vulnerabilities. This fix has been introduced just before the launch of the infamous BlackHat security conference in Las Vegas this week.

Among the two fixes, one of them - MFSA 2007-27- takes care of an issue where Firefox did not properly encode spaces and double-quotes while parsing URLs. This allowed execution of any program installed at a known location and would allow enough access to a compromised system to completely taken over. The second, and smaller fix - MFSA 2007-26 - corrects a bug that was introduced by the fix for an earlier vulnerability. This vulnerability would allow escalation attacks against add-ons that create "about: blank" windows.
