ROCCAT intros new line of gaming peripherals

ROCCAT may not be quite as well known as some gaming-centric peripheral makers, but it looks like its doing its best to make its mark with a new line of peripherals, including a gaming mouse and keyboard. Dubbed the ROCCAT Kone, the mouse looks to sport all the features an excessively-demanding gamer would expect, including no less than ten buttons, four removable weights, and a customizable light system with "thousands of colors." While you apparently won't get quite as many color options with the ROCCAT Valo keyboard (pictured after the break), you will still at least get illuminated keys (including 41 macro keys), along with 2MB of memory for storing up to five profiles, and even an integrated noise-canceling microphone. Look for it and the mouse to set you back €100 and €70 (or $147 and $103), respectively, when they hit Europe in February, with a matching mousepad also available for €20 (or about $30).

Internet causes depression

Dr Pinhas Dannon, psychiatrist from Tel Aviv University's Sackler Faculty of Medicine, and colleagues, have found that those who constantly surf the Internet may soon suffer from anxiety and severe depression.

The research reveals that nearly 10 percent of total Internet users worldwide are suffering from 'Internet addiction disorder', a pathological condition that can lead to anxiety and severe depression.
Internet addiction is a product of modernization, and is just like other addictions, including addiction to coffee, to exercise, or to talking on the mobile phone.

Apple ipod nano

The product summary:

The good:

The iPod Nano has a gorgeous, superslim design with a bright, photo-friendly screen. It is easy to operate and works seamlessly with iTunes and the iTunes Music Store, which has the world's largest selection of music. It boasts a nimble processor and system performance with no skipping, thanks to flash memory.

The bad:
The iPod Nano suffers from unspectacular battery life, and though the device is durable, it scratches easily; blemishes show up more drastically on the black version. The Nano is pricey in terms of gigabytes per dollar, and its 4GB maximum capacity is not a good fit for many power users. The player skips many sought-after extra features such as FM radio and A/V-out, and it doesn't work with Camera Connector. The USB power adapter ($29) is not included.

GPhone

The opening volley of official announcements from Google and the Open Handset Alliance bring good news for people sick of the carrier choke hold. Of course, it's easy to spot who gets an Android device first: T-Mobile and Sprint. And it's easy to understand why underdogs like them would be the first two carriers to sign on to the initiative. But let's look a little deeper, to see why the gPhone/Android platform is off to a much better start than the iPhone, and why you probably won't have to switch to a carrier you don't want to get a phone you might really love.

For starters, Sprint and T-Mobile are big companies but they don't have the momentum or subscribers that Verizon Wireless and AT&T do. T-Mo's the baby with 26 million, though that is part of a global subscriber base that's vastly larger (over 109 million). Sprint has an impressive 54 million subscribers, but is currently in a public panic about waning performance. Both, contending with bigger gorillas, have reason to latch on to the biggest of them all, Google.

There's a second reason for T-Mo and Sprint to be onboard: HTC. HTC has had a good run with both of those carriers, introducing two of the coolest recent products exclusively on them: T-Mobile's Shadow and Sprint's Touch. Verizon and AT&T have relationships with HTC as well, but it's easy to see how HTC would feel comfortable developing an Android product for the two smaller carriers.

Microsoft Provides XP Downgrade for Unhappy Vista Users

Windows Vista is Microsoft’s current flagship operating system for consumers. The operating system launched in late November for OEMs and was released to consumers on January 30.

Microsoft has long-touted the operating system as a revolutionary product for desktops and notebooks — a product that would leave no consumers longing for the 5-year-old Windows XP operating system.

“Windows Vista and Microsoft Office 2007 will transform the way people work and play,” said Microsoft chairman Bill Gates on January 30. “Windows Vista and Microsoft Office 2007 squarely address the needs and aspirations of people around the globe.”

“The visual effects are spectacular; the navigation is streamlined and intuitive,” added Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer. “They make it much easier to protect your PC, yourself and your children online. And they work together to help you accomplish more throughout the day.”

In the months following the consumer launch of Windows Vista, Microsoft played the numbers game with sales figures. The company announced in late March that it sold 20 million licenses of Vista within two months compared to just 17 million for Windows XP. The number crept up to 40 million by mid-May and by late July; Microsoft reported that 60 million copies of Windows Vista had been shipped around the world.

HTC Touch Upgraded, Coming to Sprint

The HTC Touch, with it's gesture based UI tweaks on top of a WM6 OS was a cute concept, but flawed. Sprint's picking it up, giving it CDMA/EVDO superpowers, doubling the processing speed from 200MHz to 400MHz to deal with Bill's Bloat, and eventual revision A. speed, and assisted GPS, once they software update it. The finger gesture menus invoke a set of commands for messaging, and one set for Sprint's multimedia functions, like TV and the music store. Sprint says this is likely coming in November.

GTA 4: A look into Liberty City

GTA 4 is the most popular, as well as the most money-making franchise in recent history. This game has ruled the charts for years together in terms of sales, and will continue to do so as the game's popularity only increases with each new title. GTA - the series, enables a player to be a hard-core criminal who can display road-rage, kill civilians, deal in drugs, steal any car that he likes, kill anyone that he dislikes, even go to a strip club, or pick up hookers; I guess this explains why this game is so popular. A new title in the series is under-development and will soon be available for pre-order as its release has been pushed to 2008. There are a few official trailers and a little info available on fan websites. Most of it entails rumors, but I have tried to filter out a few good facts about the game. Read on to know more about your favorite upcoming title.

Plot

The first trailer that we saw was a brief one; it showed Liberty City in 720p running real-time on the Rockstar Advanced Game Engine (RAGE).

The Rage engine is the same technology that powers the Rockstar Table Tennis game. The game is based in a redesigned Liberty City, which is loosely based on New York City. The game's protagonist is called Niko Bellic, a guy who comes to Liberty City in search of redemption and has to start a new life.

Niko has killed many people and indulged in several activities that he wants to put behind him. In the first trailer we can hear him say, "Life is complicated; I killed people, smuggled people, sold people. Perhaps here, things will be different."

He wants to get away from it all. He has a cousin in Liberty City called Roman, who calls Niko to Liberty City saying that he has all the comforts in the world and Niko could join him there. Niko arrives to the City only to find out that Roman is lying. He had called Niko there to help him clear off his debts. Roman is the only person Niko knows in the city, so he decides to help. What happens next is for us to find out when the game is out.

Mozilla Fixes 2 Crucial Bugs in Firefox

Mozilla has released version 2.006 of its mainstream browser Firefox, which fixes 2 very important security vulnerabilities. This fix has been introduced just before the launch of the infamous BlackHat security conference in Las Vegas this week.

Among the two fixes, one of them - MFSA 2007-27- takes care of an issue where Firefox did not properly encode spaces and double-quotes while parsing URLs. This allowed execution of any program installed at a known location and would allow enough access to a compromised system to completely taken over. The second, and smaller fix - MFSA 2007-26 - corrects a bug that was introduced by the fix for an earlier vulnerability. This vulnerability would allow escalation attacks against add-ons that create "about: blank" windows.

Samsung Bordeaux 26R7

This one seems to be a favorite for gamers around the country, probably because Microsoft has been putting these on display with their Xbox 360s in every electronic store they could find. Not that I'm complaining in any way, as the 26R7 is a great TV to have for personal entertainment purposes.
The plentiful connectivity options makes sure you can connect your game console, DVD player and your PC to this one, making it an all-round entertainment display for you. Though I have a personal gripe against the Piano finish trend, plaguing all electronics these days, I have to admit the curvaceous body and the glossy finish does look stellar on this one.
Rs. 37,900 was the cheapest price I could find on this one, which is still better than the Rs. 39,990 that the company offered us. If you have the money, then this is a great TV.

LG 26LX2R

The biggest advantage this flat panel display has is the XD picture enhancement technology that boosts the colors and the sharpness of the picture to give you near-HD quality from your regular DVD player or a non-HD home gaming console.
You'll get just as many connectivity options here as in the Samsung TV above, and though it may not look like a Bordeaux, it does hold its own when it comes to overall performance.
At its price of Rs. 38,500 you will probably end up spending a bit more on this unit than the competition's, but the XD technology may come in handy when playing your older game consoles from a shorter viewing distance.

HP TX1016AU

The HP TX1016AU is an extremely handsome laptop, almost masculine in appearance. It comes with a black glossy lid with HP written in silver, making for a very classy looking laptop. The power button is intelligently placed on the outside in the form of a spring loaded slider. This is primarily done so that the power button is accessible even in the tablet mode, otherwise if placed along the keyboard, it would have been inaccessible. Even the Blue tooth cum Wi-Fi slider switch is placed on the outside. The keys on the keyboard are well laid out. With small form factor laptops like the 12.1-inch ones, some of the keys are eliminated, re-oriented or reduced in size. With the TX1016AU, the function and the right shift key is reduced in size which according to me is very much manageable. Otherwise all the other keys are laid out in a standard format and are comfortable to work with. There are dedicated back-lit up, down and mute volume keys outside the keyboard panel. This is a convenient addition as finding the volume keys in the keyboard and then using them as a combination with the function keys can get a little tedious, especially when watching a movie in the night. And just for that the keys are back lit. Also the mute key turns orange in color when active. Then there is a hot key which when pressed brings up a panel with a whole lot of options including the brightness control.

Google marked another milestone!

Google has achieved a new landmark in this week.
Google is now more closer to the universal search i.e any search provides all categories of results.

According to Google:

A user searching for information on the Star Wars character Darth Vader is likely interested in all the information related to the character and the actor -- not just web pages that mention the movie. Google will now deliver a single set of blended search results that include a humorous parody of the movie, images of the Darth Vader character, news reports on the latest Lucas film, as well as websites focused on the actor James Earl Jones – all ranked in order of relevance to the query. Users no longer have to visit several different Google search properties to find such a wide array of information on the topic.

Acer Aspire L320 mini PC touts Viiv certification

Every time you think the Viiv hype is dying down, Acer brings it back up, as just a few months after kicking out the "world's first" Viiv-certified LCD TV, the firm is now unveiling its Aspire L320 mini PC with -- you guessed it -- a shiny Viiv sticker adorning its case। Hot on the heels of its xSeries displays, this machine sports a slim, silver / black case designed for living room placement, a variety of Intel Pentium processors, up to 2GB of DDR2 RAM, up to 400GB of internal hard drive capacity, an Acer-branded digital / analog hybrid TV tuner, DVD writer, flash card reader, and a bevy of included ho hum software that you'll likely replace immediately upon bootup। Additionally, it sports 7।1-channel audio, Intel's GMA 3000 graphics set, VGA / DVI outputs, an option to add Windows Vista, FireWire, audio in / out, and a pair of USB 2।0 ports to round things out। No word just yet on price or availability, but this ought to be a fairly inexpensive alternative for those eying a very basic (and fairly attractive) pre-fab HTPC।source:-engadget.com
